PM Shehbaz arrives in US to attend the 80th UNGA Session

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in the United States to participate in the 80th high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is set to deliver an important policy address.

In this regard, the visit follows his recent stay in the United Kingdom, where the prime minister underwent a medical check-up, addressed an overseas Pakistani convention, and held several official and private meetings in London.

Furthermore, the prime minister will present Pakistan’s perspective on pressing global and regional issues. The statement issued by the Foreign Office, his address at the UNGA will draw international attention to the human rights situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He is expected to urge the global community to take practical steps to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and to promote peace in conflict zones.

In this sense, the prime minister will also focus on Pakistan’s stance on broader global challenges such as climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia, and the pursuit of sustainable development goals.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to meet world leaders on the sidelines of the UN session. Notably, he is expected to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump, in the presence of other Muslim leaders.

These interactions are likely to cover a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, with a focus on strengthening dialogue and cooperation.

Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has already reached New York ahead of the prime minister’s arrival.

He will accompany Shehbaz Sharif in high-level meetings and is also scheduled to hold more than a dozen bilateral engagements with his counterparts at ministerial and senior levels.
