Security forces step up patrolling on Chaman-Quetta highway

CHAMAN: The security forces have intensified patrolling and snap-checking on the Chaman-Quetta Highway near Zarah Band, with Levies Force and Quick Response Force (QRF) carrying out round-the-clock monitoring to maintain law and order in the region.

In this regard, as per the Assistant Commissioner (AC) Chaman, Imtiaz Ali Baloch, strict measures have been taken to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and public safety. He stressed that no group, political party, or tribal elders will be allowed to block the highway under any circumstances.

So far, the official further appealed to the public to give full cooperation to security personnel during routine checks and patrolling.

He urged residents to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities, focusing on the fact that community support is vital for ensuring peace and stability in the border region.

In this regard, the Chaman-Quetta Highway holds significant strategic and economic importance, connecting Balochistan’s provincial capital with one of the busiest border towns of Pakistan.

So far, the highway has witnessed occasional disruptions due to protests, sit-ins, and security challenges.

AC Baloch underlined the government’s commitment to maintaining order and protecting the rights of commuters.

He said that while the administration respects democratic rights, unlawful gatherings or road blockades cannot be tolerated, as they cause hardship for thousands of travelers and undermine regional security efforts.

Meanwhile, security officials added that increased surveillance, including mobile patrols, checkpoints, and intelligence coordination, has already led to improved monitoring of the area. Forces remain on high alert to address any emerging threats.

The residents have showed mixed reactions to the increased security presence, and some of them appreciated the preventive steps being taken, others have urged authorities to also engage with local stakeholders to address grievances that often lead to protests.
