Chaghi: The Pakistan–Iran Taftan border crossing has been reopened after two and a half months, according to Levies sources.
The gate had been closed earlier due to tensions between Iran and Israel.
Officials said the successful efforts of the Deputy Commissioner of Chaghi and the Assistant Commissioner of Taftan led to the reopening.
Residents are now permitted to travel to Zahedan on a 15-day border pass.
Levies further reported that these passes will be issued from the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Dalbandin.
Local communities have expressed their appreciation to the higher authorities for this development and urged that the border-crossing facility be made permanent.
They added that the reopening of the gate has opened new prospects for strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations.
Trade through the Taftan border serves as a key economic link between Pakistan and Iran, facilitating the exchange of goods such as petroleum products, fruits, vegetables, and construction materials.
The border crossing is crucial for both formal and informal trade, supporting livelihoods for local communities in Balochistan.
Officials highlight that the resumption of operations at Taftan after periodic closures strengthens bilateral trade ties and provides a legal channel for exporters and importers.
