Families of Punjab laborers killed in Quetta protest

ISLAMABAD: Families of laborers from Punjab who were killed in Quetta on the basis of their identity staged a protest outside the National Press Club, demanding justice for the innocent victims and support for their now-destitute families.

Aunt of one of the victims, who hailed from Lodhran in South Punjab, tearfully recounted during the protest that her nephew had planned to marry during the holy month of Ramadan.

She said that when he tried to return home due to rising tensions, he was forcibly taken off a bus and killed.

She alleged that the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) was behind the attack and claimed to possess video evidence.

“If the attackers had anger toward the government or the state, what was the fault of workers earning daily wages for their children’s livelihood?” she asked.

The mother of the two slain brothers told reporters that both sons were the sole breadwinners of the family, and one was about to be married.

“They were innocent laborers returning home when they were mercilessly killed.

They were someone’s children, the support of their household.

No one has contacted us, and no one has helped us.
