Healthcare access in Balochistan remains major challenge: CM Bugti

DERA BUGTI: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti reaffirmed his government’s commitment to addressing the province’s healthcare challenges during a visit to the Mir Ghulam Qadir Bugti Hospital in Baiker.

The facility, run in partnership with Indus Hospital, has emerged as a model of public-private collaboration in the region. During his visit, he inspected various departments, wards and the pharmacy, where officials briefed him on the medical services available to patients.

He underlined the government’s resolve to improve healthcare access across Balochistan’s vast and sparsely populated terrain.

The chief minister noted that Balochistan, covering 43 percent of Pakistan’s landmass, faces unique logistical hurdles in delivering basic healthcare. He outlined a strategy to modernize primary health units while easing the burden on tertiary care hospitals. This approach, he said, would raise the quality of specialized treatment and reduce the financial and logistical strain on citizens forced to travel outside the province for care.

“Our goal is to bring quality healthcare to people’s doorsteps,” Bugti said, adding that reforms are underway to upgrade infrastructure and expand partnerships with private institutions.

He praised Indus Hospital’s role at the Mir Ghulam Qadir Bugti facility, calling its contribution a practical example of the government’s broader vision for healthcare reform. Bugti also announced plans to extend basic health services to Balochistan’s most remote areas, ensuring every citizen has access to essential medical care.
