ISLAMABAD: The vast reserves of natural gas have been detected deep beneath Pakistan’s territorial waters in a joint survey carried out by the Pakistan Navy in collaboration with China, a senior former naval officer disclosed.
In this sense, the revelation came from Rear Admiral (retd) Fawad Amin Baig during the commemoration of Pakistan Navy Day, observed on September 8 in order to pay a tribute to the sacrifices and achievements of naval heroes in safeguarding the nation’s maritime frontiers.
So far, Admiral Baig said the discovery could mark a turning point for the country’s energy and economic future if managed effectively.
In this regard, as per the senior Naval Officer, the comprehensive surveys undertaken with Chinese support have confirmed the presence of significant gas deposits on the seabed.
He further focused on the fact that the immediate priority should be to attract both local and foreign investment to bring the resource into use.
In addition, Admiral Baig underlined the challenges that Pakistan continues to face in turning such opportunities into reality. He cautioned that hostile elements often resort to fifth-generation warfare tactics to discourage investors and slow down progress.
Moreover, he expressed optimism that recent institutional reforms, particularly through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), along with coordinated efforts by the country’s civil and military leadership, are paving the way for a more secure and investment-friendly environment.
