Balochistan issues flood alert amid monsoon rains

Flood threat from Punjab’s torrential rains could impact Balochistan

QUETTA : The Balochistan Home Department has issued a high-alert warning to all districts as monsoon rains intensify across the province. Officials warn that the heavy downpours pose a serious threat to lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

To mitigate disaster, the department has immediately banned several high-risk activities. These include cutting or blocking canals and drainage systems, particularly in the vulnerable Nasirabad and Sibi divisions. Unauthorized boating and swimming in rivers and canals are also now prohibited to prevent accidental drownings.

The order further declares that any interference with government rescue and relief efforts during a flood is illegal. Police and Levies forces have been directed to enforce these rules strictly, with the authority to arrest offenders without a warrant.

The public is urged to follow official instructions and avoid dangerous behavior, as cooperation is essential to minimize the potential for tragedy during the monsoon season.
