WASHINGTON: The United States President Donald Trump has claimed that his intervention during clashes between India and Pakistan in May averted what he described as an imminent “nuclear war.”
In this sense, Trump asserted that Pakistan had shot down seven Indian aircraft during the hostilities and that the situation was spiraling out of control before his administration stepped in.
“The war with India and Pakistan was the next level that was going to be a nuclear war,” Trump told reporters. “They already shot down seven jets, that was raging.”
So far, the Trump administration adopted a hardline approach, warning both Islamabad and New Delhi of economic consequences if the violence did not cease.
“I told them very clearly, if this doesn’t stop, the United States will suspend trade ties. It was this firm stance that stopped the war,” he said.
Furthermore, Trump described the episode as part of his broader foreign policy achievements, boasting that he had “ended seven major wars” during his tenure.
