Saudi envoy meets Balochistan governor, discusses investment, mobility

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki praised the governor of Balochistan, Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, for his efforts to facilitate direct travel from Quetta to Saudi Arabia. The acknowledgment came during a meeting between the two officials in Islamabad to discuss mobility, investments, and regional cooperation, according to a statement from the governor’s office on Thursday.

The meeting reflected Saudi Arabia’s growing interest in expanding its engagement beyond Pakistan’s federal capital. Balochistan, a resource-rich yet underdeveloped province, has emerged as a key player in regional trade and energy corridors.

Both sides discussed the strong bilateral relationship between the two Islamic countries, along with regional political and economic developments and matters of mutual interest.

“Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki appreciated Governor Mandokhail’s personal efforts in facilitating direct travel from Quetta to Saudi Arabia for the people of Balochistan,” the statement said.

Although the statement did not specify a timeline or formal agreement, the ambassador’s remarks indicated Saudi Arabia’s willingness to ease travel for religious pilgrims, workers, and business travelers from Balochistan—many of whom currently rely on Karachi or Islamabad for international flights.

The meeting also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s recognition of Balochistan’s growing importance in Pakistan’s economic future and its intent to expand bilateral cooperation beyond central government institutions.

Governor Mandokhail reaffirmed the strength of Pakistan-Saudi ties. “History bears witness to Saudi Arabia’s special support for Pakistan during every difficult time,” he said.

Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s most significant diplomatic and economic allies. In recent months, the Kingdom has reiterated its plans to invest in major infrastructure, mining, and agricultural projects across the country, including in Balochistan.
