Two colliers killed as landslide hits coal mine in Duki

DUKI: Two coal miners were killed when a landslide struck a coal mine in the Chamalang area of Duki district on Monday.

The incident occurred during regular mining operations. Rescue teams quickly reached the site and recovered the bodies of the trapped workers.

Authorities identified the deceased as Ruadad Khan, son of Dad, a resident of Zhob, and Najeebullah, son of Hussain, from Qila Saifullah. Both belonged to the Kakar tribe.

Medical teams completed legal formalities at the hospital and dispatched the bodies to the victims’ hometowns.

This is the second deadly incident reported from the Chamalang coal field in recent months. In April 2025, two other colliers lost their lives after inhaling poisonous gas inside a mine.

Levies officials confirmed that the victims had entered the mine to dig coal but lost consciousness due to toxic gas buildup. Other labourers outside the mine noticed the absence of signals and alerted the mine owner.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the recent landslide and safety measures at the site.
