GWADAR: The total of 40 Union Council Development Plans (UCDPs) for Gwadar and Lasbela districts have been formally handed over to he provincial government under the Gwadar-Lasbela Livelihoods Support Project Phase II (GLLSP-II). This initiative, jointly funded by the Balochistan government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is designed to promote inclusive rural development through community-driven strategies.
In this regard, the five-year plans were prepared through extensive consultations with local communities, government departments, and private sector stakeholders. They outline targeted action in order to address pressing development challenges, mobilizing resources, and strengthening self-reliance at the grassroots level
In this sense, Abdul Rauf Baloch, Secretary of the Local Government Department, termed the UCDPs a brief roadmap for rural uplift. He focused on that the plans indicate the real needs of communities and reasserted the provincial government’s determination to ensure adequate resources for their implementation.
So far, Fernanda Thomas da Rocha, IFAD’s Country Director for Pakistan, described the initiative as a key step in participated development. The GLLSP-II, implemented with the support of the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), focuses on poverty alleviation through grassroots engagement and livelihood enhancement.

The second phase of the project spans six years and is expected to directly benefit more than 100,000 households across 40 union councils in Gwadar and Lasbela.
