Karachi Saved: Three Held for 2,000 kg Afghan Explosives

KARACHI: A major terrorist plot in Karachi was foiled after more than two tons of ready-to-use explosive material were seized and three terror suspects were arrested, law enforcement officials said.

The seizure was announced during a press conference by Additional Inspector General of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Zulfiqar Lark and DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar.

According to officials, an operation was carried out in the Baldia Rais Goth area of Karachi.
More than 2,000 kilograms of explosive material were recovered.
One suspect was arrested at the scene.

Following the suspect’s identification, raids were conducted at six locations across Karachi.
Two more suspects were arrested during the follow-up operations.

DIG Mahesar said initial investigations showed the explosives were brought from Afghanistan into Balochistan and then transported to Karachi.
A house located 35 to 40 kilometers outside the city had been rented to store the material.

More than 30 plastic drums filled with explosives were recovered.
Five metal gas cylinders were also seized.

Officials said the drums contained commercial explosives and mixed explosive material.
The material was described as fully prepared for use.

The plot was linked to militants of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), according to CTD officials.
The plan was said to have been devised abroad.

Facilitators and handlers involved in the plot were identified.
Raids were said to be ongoing to arrest them.
