QUETTA: Security forces killed 18 terrorists linked to India-backed proxy Fitna al Khawarij in two different operations, including in Quetta, officials said Wednesday.
The operation, conducted on the outskirts of Quetta Ghazaband area, came a day after militants from the group Fitna al-Khawarij attacked a Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in the provincial capital. Security forces say 10 terrorists of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, known as Fitna al Khwarij, were killed in the operation.
The forces conducted the operation in the mountains near Quetta’s Ghazaband on actionable intelligence. Two personnel were reported injured in the exchange of fire.
Another operation was conducted in Sherani area where the forces targeted another TTP hideout, killing around eight Khawarij.
Yesterday, a suicide bomber and gunmen stormed the FC compound, killing at least three people before security forces repelled the assault, killing all the attackers.
According to security sources, the assault began when a Suzuki pickup with explosives rammed into the compound corner. Moments later, five militants of the Indian proxy, disguised in FC uniforms, attempted to storm the facility. Security forces immediately engaged them, killing all of the attackers before they could enter.
Two FC personnel sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. Authorities said the militants belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij, a proxy network backed by India.
