PESHAWAR: At least 12 people have lost their lives and 18 others sustained injuries as torrential rains and flash floods battered several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 48 hours, according to a damage report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The downpours caused widespread destruction across the province, with Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, and Buner districts experiencing severe damage. Accidents related to the extreme weather were also reported in Bajaur, Chitral, Lower Dir, Hazara Division, Kurram, and North Waziristan.
The PDMA report confirmed that 18 houses were damaged due to the heavy rains and flash floods. Of these, 15 houses suffered partial damage, while three were completely collapsed, leaving many families homeless.
Authorities have directed the administration of the affected districts to expedite the provision of relief materials to the victims. The PDMA is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant departments to assist those impacted by the natural calamity.
Rescue and relief operations are underway in the worst-hit areas as the provincial government assesses the full extent of the damage.
