QUETTA: A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to review the performance of provincial departments and progress on development projects.
The session was attended by administrative secretaries of all departments and Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary presented a comprehensive briefing on the performance of various departments and the status of ongoing development projects.
One of the key initiatives discussed was the plan to shift Balochistan’s industrial estates to solar energy, with an estimated annual production of 5 billion units of electricity.
The forum was also informed that 27,437 agricultural tube wells have been converted to solar power, while 15,000 households have already received home solar systems.
It was shared that 15 new factories were established in the province in the last fiscal year.
In the education sector, 3,049 schools were made operational, and 234,779 children were newly enrolled.
A total of 10,513 teachers were recruited and 17,907 were trained. Additionally, 5,000 redundant posts were abolished.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti instructed all department secretaries to conduct field visits across the province and actively monitor their respective departments.
He also took notice of complaints from students under the Department of Labour & Manpower studying in Islamabad and sought a detailed report.
Furthermore, he directed the Labour Department to provide a full update next week on the progress of the Youth Skills Development Program, calling it a cornerstone of Balochistan’s bright future, and emphasized that no negligence or delay will be tolerated.
He urged autonomous bodies like WASA to develop revenue-generating capabilities and called for effective, long-term solutions to Quetta’s water issues.
The Chief Minister also directed the establishment of more rehabilitation centers for drug addicts and strictly instructed that no drug users should be seen on the streets within the next three months.
All departments were ordered to complete the internal approval process for small-scale schemes by August 15. CM Bugti emphasized timely completion of development projects to ensure direct public benefit.
He expressed strong dissatisfaction with delays and outdated practices in government offices, warning that negligence, corruption, and poor performance will not be tolerated.
