CHAMAN: The polio worker was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Chaman’s Killi Muhammad Hassan Tandoor area, he was a frontline health worker engaged in the national polio eradication campaign.
The victim, identified as Hafiz Abdul Qadir, was on official duty as part of an anti-polio team when he came under fire. In this regard, the assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him while he was engaged in his responsibilities.
In this sense, two female polio workers who were accompanying him managed to escape unharmed by taking shelter in a nearby house. Furthermore, the attackers managed to flee the scene, reportedly taking advantage of the narrow lanes of Kunjhan Abad, which hindered security forces’ immediate pursuit.
Meanwhile, security forces accelerated patrolling in and around Chaman. In addition, polio vaccination campaigns in Balochistan, particularly in border districts like Chaman, have often faced challenges, including refusals, propaganda, and threats from extremist elements.
