Gwadar desalination plant becomes fully operational

GWADAR: The long-awaited 1.2 million gallons per day (MGD) desalination plant at Gwadar Port has been declared fully functional, indicating a crucial beginning toward resolving the long-standing issue of water in the port city.

The announcement came during a recent inspection by Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Noor-ul-Haq Baloch. It was accompanied by engineers and local officials, the Chairman was briefed on the plant’s technical operations and performance metrics by CHinese engineers and Engineer Gulzar Baloch, the plant’s in-charge and a senior official at GPA.

Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch prioritized the reactivation of the desalination facility, previously plagued by delays and technical setbacks. In this sense, a team of Chinese experts was promptly engaged to troubleshoot operational challenges, and under the leadership of Engineer Gulzar Baloch, the project was swiftly revived.

The desalination plant, now running at full capacity, is expected to provide up to 1.2 million gallons of clean drinking water daily, a crucial supply for a population frequently affected by acute water shortages.

So far, for years, Gwadar has relied heavily on water tankers and intermittent supply from nearby dams, leaving thousands of residents in a state of uncertainty.

The successful rehabilitation of the desalination facility reflects the collaborative efforts of the Gwadar Port Authority, Chinese technical teams, and dedicated local engineers.
