Heavy monsoon rains kill 16 in Balochistan

QUETTA: Heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 16 people in Balochistan. The victims include women and children. Eight others have suffered injuries in separate rain-related incidents.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed the deaths in Zhob, Ziarat, Musakhel, Khuzdar, Loralai, Lasbela, and Kohlu districts.

Since June 28, torrential rains and flash floods have damaged 58 houses. Of these, 47 homes were partially damaged, while 11 were completely destroyed. Low-lying areas remain underwater. Flooding has disrupted many link roads, cutting off access for residents.

Relief teams are working in the affected areas. The PDMA and local authorities are distributing tents, food, and essential supplies to displaced families. Rescue teams are helping people trapped in remote or submerged areas. Officials have urged the public to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.

Meanwhile, the Indus River is swelling due to ongoing rainfall. A moderate flood is underway at Taunsa Barrage. Low-level flooding is also reported at Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

The flow at Taunsa Barrage has reached 426,000 cusecs. Water has entered several katcha areas in Rajanpur and Taunsa, forcing evacuations.

The Irrigation Department reports an inflow of 355,283 cusecs at Guddu Barrage. The outflow stands at 315,558 cusecs. Water levels have risen by over 13,000 cusecs in 24 hours and are likely to increase further. Authorities remain on high alert.

Elsewhere, rains continue in Lahore, Okara, Bahawalnagar, and Renala Khurd. Flooding is affecting low-lying urban areas.

The Met Office forecasts more rain in Islamabad, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Officials have urged all regions to stay prepared.
