Mock emergency drill conducted in Jaffarabad ahead of monsoon spell

JAFFARABAD: Monsoon season and potential urban flooding, the district administration of Jaffarabad, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Khalid Khan, conducted a mock emergency drill to assess preparedness and response capabilities across key departments.

During the exercise, Chief Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Ahmed Nawaz Jatak, mentioned that in view of possible urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon rains, municipal teams are fully mobilized. 

In such a scenario, he stated that machinery is being deployed for the cleaning of drainage systems and the swift disposal of rainwater.

So far, District Health Officer Dr. Ayaz Hussain Jamali also briefed participants on the preparedness of the health sector. 

He confirmed that all healthcare centers across the district are well-stocked with essential medicines, specifically for waterborne and seasonal diseases such as diarrhea and malaria.

Deputy Commissioner Khalid Khan organized an inspection of the machinery and resources of the irrigation department, agricultural engineering, and the municipal corporation. 

The Meteorological Department has predicted that widespread rainfall will persist across various regions of the country until at least July 17, with heavy showers expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, upper and central Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan. Monsoon activity is expected to extend into August, accompanied by overcast conditions in several parts of the country.

He issued directives to all relevant officers to ensure that all preparations are implemented effectively and practically. He focused on the importance of readiness to prevent hardship for residents during heavy rainfall or flood situations.
